Chronicling Lexi

Above Average
Lexi's cord stump fell off yesterday at five days old. People seem impressed by this. I expected nothing less: like in Lake Woebegone, all our children are above average ;o)

Seriously, the midwife said it would fall off quicker without the triple dye they do at the hospital, and it seems to be true anecdotally.

cool. Alice's took over 2 weeks, and I helped it along a little, not that she seemed to mind.

Yeah, the pediatrician told me yesterday that triple dye does slow the time down and proclaimed it "worthless" but I see the point -- the cord looks weird as it dries (spotted, all kinds of colors) and it probably freaked people out so dyeing it cuts down on parents calling to ask "is this normal?" :o)

I remember when my girls' cords fell off. I was so sad! To me, it signified the end of the new-newborn stage. From then on, she was just a newborn. No more little cord that used to be a part of me. *Sigh.*

But yeah, to anyone but a mom and dad, they are pretty ugly.
